A day at the beach for the farmers

Will and I took a few hours off today to take a dip in the bay. Cory came along and got to play with some other dogs, chase the frisbee and wet his toes in the water. He’s not a swimmer but will go in the water as long as his feet touch bottom!

Adrien and Sophie take on cheese making in our kitchen

We’re very lucky to have Adrien and Sophie practicing their cheese making skills in our kitchen once a week. They’ve been wanting to learn the skills and I am very happy to have someone taking the milk we get on a daily basis and converting it into delicious cheese. They have made ricotta, paneer, chevre, mozzarella, feta and gouda so far and have plans for crotin, camembert and blue cheese in the future. I think we’ll have to milk more goats next year to keep up with their production!

Snazzy new insulated bags (with farm name) for CSA deliveries

Alyson does her thing: packing lettuce into CSA bags

Things are going really well with our CSA so far. We seem able to feed 73 families each week with yummy vegetables and have started selling at the Dieppe Farmer’s market as well. It was tight starting out but we’re getting to where there’s lots of choice in the field and it’s tons of fun putting the week’s goodies together for appreciative eaters. This week we’ll have potatoes, broccoli, zucchini and baby beets – yum!

Will and Cory discover the Bay of Fundy

Low tide in the land of the highest tides

Will and Cory and I took a day off on our wedding anniversary and visited Fundy National Park. We hiked and picniced and had a great day out. The blackflies didn’t deter us at all – we simply wore our bug nets, opening them periodically to put food into our mouths and got on with it! Cory got his first taste of salt water and was slightly intimidated by waves and Will and I did some good, stiff climbing and discovered that we still got what it takes to get up a big hill!
